My Mom recently had her own little DIY project that turned out looking really awesome! She sent pictures along the way and walked me through the fairly easy project. Now for you I have a step by step instruction on how to turn an old wooden door into a brand new headboard!
1.) Take a louvered door, sand and wipe clean. Then take a primer and paint frame and outside edges of the louvers (you will end up covering the louvers later on). Let dry.
2.) After the primer dries, paint frame desired color and let dry.
3.) After the paint dries, you will need to strengthen the louvers in order to make a sturdy headboard. In order to do so, place batting between the slats in the door.
4.) Get two inch foam. Trim and spray adhesive on one side and place over the slats with the batting in between.
5.) Measure fabric, add approximately 2 inches extra. Fold and iron fabric to fit the inside frame of each square. Take upholstery tacks and hammer and start tapping to secure fabric along the outside edges.
6.) After the fabric is secure, drill screws into studs in the wall making sure you measure the height width of the mattress to make sure the headboard hangs where you want.
If you have any questions feel free to ask!
Enjoy!
