Bleached Out

Bleach can add awesome effects to clothing and take basics from boring to edgy

Taking a bleach pen to an old piece of clothing can instantly bring some life back into it. It’s a cheap, easy way to add a personal touch to your wardrobe and it can be as simple as the heart tee or as detailed as the hand bleached Tom’s below. All you need is a bleach pen, a piece of cardboard, and an old t-shirt (or whatever you decide to take on). Once you begin your design, put the cardboard in between your shirt to keep the bleach from bleeding through. You will have to keep an eye on your fabric when you first begin to bleach. You want to make sure the bleach does not burn a hole through the fabric and the color is coming out evenly. You can leave the bleach on anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes depending on the fabric and how fast it changes, you really just need to keep an eye on it and sort of judge it for yourself. After you finish your design, and have achieved the amount of bleaching you want to show through on your shirt, rinse it out with some cold water to stop the processing. Throw it in the dryer and you and your re-awakened tee are ready to go! Keep in mind, all fabrics are different and the bleach won’t always turn bright white.
