I have a friend that’s currently attending Douglas J an Aveda school for cosmetology here in Michigan. Last night, we ventured into the world of ombre and dyed my tips blonde. After scrolling through many photos on a Google image search for “ombre,” we decided to attempt a look similar to the picture of Lauren Conrad’s below. (I find it funny that when you search ombre on Google, pictures of hair is all that you get…I wonder if that would have been the case a few years ago).
I forgot to take a before picture so this is the best I have as she was putting the first few foils in. I have partial highlights from about three months ago, but we decided they were fine to leave and just work around.
As you can see, she concentrated the foils towards the bottom of my hair and around my face leaving a few pieces out here and there to add some darker dimensions. Also, a lot of ombre techniques involve teasing before applying the color/foil; she did not do that with my hair. She pretty much just freely painted the color on the ends of my hair.
My hair underneath is a lot darker than the top of my head, so in the above photo you can really see the contrasting colors. I think eventually I want to go back over my color and take out some of my old highlights to achieve an overall result more similar to the above. However, below is the final result, and I’m very pleased with it. You can see where my old highlights are growing out, and I’m hoping as they continue to grow out it will create more of an ombre effect.
Overall I’m very pleased with the ombre technique. It was quick and painless compared to regular highlights (which have literally taken 4 hours for stylists to do in my thick hair). Also, the maintenance of ombre seems like it will be way easier and less expensive. I’m excited to experiment more with the technique and have already found a celeb photo I want to try this Fall!
What do you think of the ombre technique? Have you tried it or would you rather do without it?
Are there any color trends you’re hoping to try this Fall?
